Description
At the edge of the Makgadikgadi salt pans, deep in the Kalahari desert, lies a small pan called Nxai which is the San word for “pan”. In the dry winter months, the animals which remain in the area rely heavily on the few remaining pans. Each morning is a procession of animals coming for their daily drink as though ushered on stage in the same daily order by a conductor. Animals as big as giraffes suddenly appear from the distant acacias, come for their morning drink and then vanish as quickly as they arrived.
