Description
We were searching for lions before day break with no tracks or signs in the area they were last sighted. In the distance I could hear the familiar call of a mother lioness summoning her cubs. This contact call is a series of low pitched “ummmm, ummmm, ummmm” which carry many kilometres because of the deep bass pitch. Off we drove trying to triangulate these calls. Fortunately we were able to find mom, just in time for the arrival of her many cubs which followed shortly afterwards.
